Creature Feature

Creature Feature exists in a surreal space where women are depicted in unusual ways that celebrate their beauty, while also questioning how it’s perceived. The series explores the pressures of categorizing women’s physical appearance and features so intensely that they feel they become “creatures.” The styling alludes to 1960s imagery, when male photographers were credited as geniuses for erotic images of women, while the models were exploited and criticized. Curcio's series explores the idea that one's beauty does not belong to them. Her models become “creatures” of their own beauty, both empowered by it and trapped within it.
